Applying 3 in 1 OIL
At some point during the long life of your windows, you may find that you are hearing a whining noise when you open or close one or both of the sashes of your Double Hung Window. This is a common problem if you live in areas where there is a lot of dust in the air. This is not a design flaw with your window and is easily corrected with some easy to do, regular maintenance. Unlock and slide both sashes up and down about 8 inches, so that you can see the steel, spiral mechanism on the side of each sash. Using 3 and 1 oil, squirt one drop of the oil on each of the spiral mechanisms. Repeat to ensure both sides of the window are done. Now open and close the sashes, up and down, several times to fully lubricate the spirals. Any whining noise should immediately cease. If not, repeat the above steps one more time and then as often as you require thereafter.
