Warranty

There is an old adage when it comes to warranties “The Bold Print Giveth and the Fine Print Taketh Away”. Window and door warranties are notorious for their fine print, which is why many sales people simply say “We have a lifetime warranty!”

You should insist on seeing and reading an actual printed copy of the warranty, look for the exclusions especially on hardware and the sealed glass units. Many companies offer a so called “Prorated Lifetime Warranty”, which means that over time you must bear some or all of the costs for repair or replacement if the product or installation fails. When you read the warranty, look especially for any costs to you for labour for replacing the glass if the sealed unit fails. The best warranty has no fine print, is inclusive of everything and should spell out that there is no cost to you for labour or materials in the case of a manufacturers or installation failure!
